Where your money goes
I am the person running ForgeHost. I would rather show you roughly how a subscription is spent than ask you to trust a round number.
These are not to-the-cent figures. Costs move around month to month, and I am deliberately not publishing my exact supplier bill — partly because it changes, partly because I would rather not hand competitors a spreadsheet. But the shape is real, and it is roughly the same story on both paid plans.
Solo — €9.99 / month
Server infrastructure (~55%). The compute, storage, and network your dedicated instance runs on, plus the shared systems that keep it monitored and patched.
Backup storage (~15%). Off-site, encrypted backups with a separate EU provider, so a bad day for one company is not a bad day for your data.
Maintenance, support & security (~30%). My time: updates, incident response, answering email, security work, and keeping the whole thing running.
Team — €22 / month
Server infrastructure (~50%). The compute, storage, and network your dedicated instance runs on, plus the shared systems that keep it monitored and patched.
Backup storage (~15%). Off-site, encrypted backups with a separate EU provider, so a bad day for one company is not a bad day for your data.
Maintenance, support & security (~35%). My time: updates, incident response, answering email, security work, and keeping the whole thing running.
What is left
Whatever remains after those three is what the business itself runs on — and tax comes out of that later, not off the top.
If a plan ever stops covering its own costs, I will say so before changing anything, and existing subscriptions keep their price regardless. That is the deal.
